It is generally accepted that good antenatal care is the only way to improve obstetrical prognosis both for mother and baby. In the year of 1961, the author described 320 cases with their results of antenatal routine laboratory studies as a preliminary report. This paper presents the analytic results of laboratory studies carried on another 4539 antenatal cases at Cheil Hospital, over a 5-year period from 1963-68. Result. 1. There wasno significant change of mean hemoglobin compared with that of preliminary studies and about 20% of Korean antenatal cases were revealed as anemic(Hb. below 10.0gm%Het. below 33%) 2. No improved figure was shown in the intestinal parasitology either. 3. Positive urine protein was proved as a good signal of toxemia of pregnancy and so 25% of positive and 100% of and positive were found to be complicated with toxemia. 4. 2.3% of positive V.D.R.L. was found and the incidence of syphilis is gradually increasing annually. 5. Initial diagnosis of active pulmonary tuberculosis could be made in about 1% of healthy prenant women by means of antenatal routine chest X-rays. 6. Anteparal, intrapartal and postpartal complications were significantly decreased in the group in the group of good antenatal care.
